PRE - CHRISTMAS SHOW 2010 (Mr. Herrera's 6th & 7th graders look sharp!)

Welcome Letter

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Welcome to the 2111-2012 school year at Our Lady of the Rosary!  My name is Mr. Alex Herrera, and as your child's teacher this year, I hope to build strong, independent and responsible young adults in each of your children.

This year will be an exciting year for your children (and even you)!  Aside from the usual school work, 6th graders can look forward to a variety of field trips, learning to become independent young adults, and experiencing our before/after-school enrichment classes!  With so many things to look forward to, I'm sure you will be just as excited for your children as they will be to undertake these new opportunities.

For our before/after-school programs, please be aware that all services are free for our students, but in order to participate, all students must turn in all required paperwork into the office.  Space is limited in eaach class, and enrollment is based on a "first come, first serve" basis, so please turn in all forms as soon as possible so that your child can participate in these free programs.

During the year, as field trips arise, and in an effort to keep them as inexpensive  as possible, you will  be  asked to volunteeer as drivers/chaperones.  Please consider volunteering, as this is our only means of keeping costs for field trips down while still providing fun, educational experiences for your children outside of school.  These volunteer hours do count towards your service hours, so please volunteer as much as you can.

It is my hope that this year will be a fun-filled year for your children and you!  And with so many new opportunities in store for your children, it is my pleasure to welcome you all to an exciting time at Our Lady of the Rosary School!

Sincerely,
Mr. Alex Herrera

Religion and Social Studies

RELIGION
  • The students will be doing monthly saint reports on their saints feast day.  The saint reports will be short 2 - 3 minutes speeches where your child will tell the class about their saint.
  • We will be starting the oral reports in September.
SOCIAL STUDIES
  • The students will be doing several Social Studies group projects related to the chapters we are studying.  All of these projects can be completed in class; however some of the groups may choose to work on them at home.
  • The students will also be doing current event projects about once a month.

Homework Policy

Homework Policy

All homework is to be turned in on time completed. Homework will be accepted the next day for half credit. I will also send a note home to let you know when your child has forgotten his or her homework. Homework is very important; it helps reinforce what is taught in class and prepares them for the next activity.
