Mrs. Claudia Orozco
Teacher Intro
Welcome to the third grade where learning is fun! As a class, we work hard to always remember The Golden Rule- treat others the way you want to be treated. Learning our multiplication and division facts is a big focus in third grade. We also begin cursive writing and use computers to build keyboarding skills. If you enjoy field trips, then you will like third grade. We take a field trip the Monterey Aquarium each year. We also attend an Oakland A’s baseball game after reaching specific reading goals. At the end of the school year, we have a third grade Olympic Medal Ceremony recognizing student achievement.
Your child's success is a result of gaining confidence in themselves to
make the right choices on a daily basis. I would like to encourage you to get
involved with your child's education, and let's form a "team" to accomplish your
child's goals.
God bless you as we move forward on this challenging yet rewarding
task.

NOTESMRS. OROZCO'S DISCIPLINE POLICY - Classroom is structured on positive reinforcement. I will praise positive behavior.
- If disruptive behavior occurs, I will tell the student to stop such behavior.
- If disruptive behavior continues, I will tell the student to go to the "refocus table".
- If disruptive behavior persists on a daily basis, I will set an appointment with the parents to discuss any situations that I need to be aware of and suggest a contract for the student. This contract will allow for close communication between school and home. For all contracts, the principal will also be notified. A copy of the contract will be given to the principal, teacher, parents, and student.
- Orozco dollars are given out to children staying on task and for working quietly in the classroom. Children use this money to purchase items I bing in for them to buy during the course of the year. This also gives students practice in counting money. We will have a BIG auction at the end of the year to spend all of their money that is left.
- Classroom rules are discussed the first couple of days of school by the children and me. As a class we discuss that it is a "choice" to follow or not follow the rules. When a student has made that decision to not follow the rules, he/she also knows that there is a consequence given. This helps our children learn to make good decisions on a daily basis.
MRS. OROZCO'S HOMEWORK POLICY - 30 minutes of homework is assigned each night (except on weekends) Time does vary depending on the student.
- I recommend students read 15/20 minutes per day in addition to other homework. Something your child enjoys is very helpful.
- I recommend working each day on math facts, such as addition, subtraction, and soon to be multiplication and division for third grade.
- Folders of their work are sent home on Fridays. Please go over them each week to see what your child's strengths and areas of growth are.
- Weekend homework consists of sharing student's folder with parents. It can also be a project that will be due soon.
- All students who do not miss one homework assignment each month will receive a free homework pass good for one night the following month. Night to be decided as a class.
- If homework is assigned and not brought back to school (even if student says he /she did it) I will not give them credit for free homework night. The homework still need to be turned in the next day. If n emergency occurs at home and a student does not complete homework, please send a note with your child the following morning, and I will allow them to turn in their homework a day late with no penalty.
- If a student does not bring in his/her homework twice in one week, I will notify parents of the situation.
- I encourage you to look over your child's homework each night. All homework is review and has utilizes skills that have already been taught in school. If your child does not understand the homework, please call or send me a note. This tells me that more reinforcement is needed.
Thank you for all your hard work and cooperation. Mrs. Orozco |
